Coeliac Disease, is an illness that attacks the body’s Autoimmune System, left untreated then anyone with this disease can develop other complications and illnesses. As with any health related condition, at the first sign of something not seeming right; always go to your family doctor or health professional, to get checked out. Timely diagnosis can mean a great deal, be wise get treated sooner rather than later, then it may be too late.
This plate of food may look appetizing, yet it may contain hidden dangers. As you can not see gluten does not mean that it is not present. How a food is prepared is just as important as to what is added to it. You also can not taste or smell gluten. To those that have Coeliac / Celiac Disease it is Toxic and a poison, that attacks the body, it is one of the many Autoimmune Diseases and therefore can be life threatening left unchecked.
For someone that needs to be living free from gluten then this is not a choice, yet there are others that they make the conscious decision to go gluten free. Whether you have Coeliac / Celiac Disease or just choose to go gluten free can be a difficult decision. Eating out, dining in, preparing food and storing food. These are things that you need to think about.
There is a great risk of cross contamination, for those that must strictly follow living free from gluten. A simple task like sharing a knife or spoon, that for most people will not pose a threat to someone with an allergy or illness, this simple act of using a Cutlery that someone without an illness or allergy takes for granted will make all the difference between them becoming ill. Never share any Cutlery or Dishes that are in contact with Gluten Containing Foods.
Can I have this to eat or that is it safe for me. Choosing food in a shop can prove difficult. You become an expert in reading labels, that you may never have thought twice about reading. Even what could be safe this month my not be safe in the months and years ahead. So it is extremely important to read all food labels, and whenever you are in doubt definitely leave it out. I would rather leave something out of my diet as, to eating something that could very well land me in hospital.
Going for a meal, with family and friends or cooking meals for friends and family; becomes a real challenge when one member of the family or group of friends are not able to eat the same thing as those around them. Sometimes it is far safer that everyone enjoys, a meal free from gluten; instead of everyone having different meals, or some choosing a gluten option and others not.
If you have Coeliac Disease even the smallest crumb of bread or food that comes into contact, with a source of gluten can become deadly. For anyone that does not strictly follow their diet correctly, then other illnesses can occur as a result. This may not happen over night but over time.
